First off -- thanks for hosting this forum. It is awesome to be able to play these great old games again and get help when we can't remember how we won them ages ago!

I have a question regarding the lamp peddler in KQ6. While I talked to him a few times early in the game, partway into it, he vanished and has not returned. I think I remember having to trade an old lamp for a new one with him, but I can't see how to do that unless he returns? Is it is glitch? Did I miss my window?

Any help appreciated before I get too far in the game and have to start over!

Do you have an old lamp to trade for a new one yet? If not, you need to get one.

Of course, if you're taking the long path through the game, you're going to need to hold on to that old lamp for a while and use it first.

Yes, I have the old lamp and have had it for a while, and have returned to Crown Island numerous times now as I complete the different tasks, but still the peddlier is MIA. Am I doomed? Can I still win taking the "long" path? (I am trying so hard to avoid spoilers here...)

You can still win the long path IF you have some mint leaves, but you won't get the absolute best possible ending.

Have the leaves, but ah, bummer. Wonder why the peddler disappeared? Do you only get two chances to talk with him without making a trade, then he's gone? Trying to remember what I did earlier in the game other than chat with him twice. I keep hoping he'll turn up again, but no dice!

Yeah, he might only show up a couple of times, I don't know exactly and the walkthrough doesn't say.

Have you done everything else and are ready to enter the castle? Have you seen Sing-Sing and had him come back with nothing? Have you drank the "drink me" bottle in the pawn shop in front of the "old cloaked man?"

I checked the KQ6 Hint Book and didn't see anything regarding specific requirements to get the lampseller to show up. Since you are looking to take the long path into the castle, has the old lamp been utilized (i.e. magic spell) and have you visited a place of death?

Also, have you befriended Jollo? Not that it will for sure trigger the lampseller, but having the lamp won't do you much good otherwise.

(P.S. Anything involving Sing Sing is completely optional.)

Though it's been some time since I played King's Quest 6, I believe the lamb peddler will be available all the way up until the very end of the game. I'm pretty sure I've traded for the lamp after having completed everything else.

I'm pretty sure you can trade with him either at the start or end of them game, not in the middle. Yeah, and if you go through the Land of the Dead, you'll need the old lamp until almost the end.

Thank you all so much! He did finally reappear just before I was about to enter the castle, and I was able to make the trade.
