Hello everyone. I have been searching everywhere for an answer on how to get KQ8 to work with windows vista. I tried DOSBox but that didn't work (unless I did it wrong). Can anyone please help me! Thanks

Thanks, but it only lists support related to windows xp... although that doesn't help me with vista. Anyone else?

You don't state what is not working and only say that you have tried using a DOS emulator to play a Windows only game. If you give us more information, we might be able to give you some suggestions. While Vista has some extra considerations, much of what you find about old games on XP will apply to Vista, too. So don't discount vonpookie's helpful advice out of hand without trying it. Most of the extra problems that you will have with Vista are from the UAC added to the OS and the changes to DirectX. To be able to guess what is the source of your problems we would need to know what problems you are having.

OK, I actually did try the suggestions listed on the page that vonpookie mentioned about and none of them helped. The game installs fine but when I go to load the game, it doesn't even load. I immediately get a message (can't remember the exact wording) that says something along the line of "Cannot run the application" or something like that. All my drivers are updated. Maybe if someone here has been able to run this game on Vista could share what they have done to make the game run. If you need any other details, let me know. Thanks

I assume that you have tried compatibility mode. Where did you install the game? There can be issues with installing old games in the "Program Files" directory in Vista. Are you logged in with a user account or Admin? One thing that you might try is to see if the game will run in windowed mode. Open the mask.cs file in Notepad and add:
set allowAltEnter true
Start the game and immediately press Alt+Enter. If all else fails, you might try VMware with 98 loaded in it. I believe VMware might now have some DirectX capabilities.

I logged into windows as administrator, I installed the game in E:\Sierra\Mask..., I tried starting the game with the xp service pack 2 compatibility mode switched on & off. I did type what you suggested in the mask.cs file and pressed alt+enter and that did not work either. One question however. Do I need to type that line in a specific location in mask.cs? Or is anywhere fine? One last thing, can you explain what vmware is? Thanks.

Anywhere in the mask.cs seems to work. I don't have Vista, so I cannot experiment with MoE on Vista. As far as virtual machines go, Google is your friend. VMware. Virtual Server is free. Virtual Workstation is not, but version 6.5b supports DirectX on guest machines. http://www.vmware.com/Virtual PC from Microsoft is free, but does not support DirectX. Virtual PC 2007

Is there any way to make it work without another operating system? I don't have any other ones that work, and i don't want to buy any.
