Hey everyone! I hope you have all been well! I just got married at the beginning of October, so I've been quite busy, and thus haven't had much time to post here (or anywhere, for that matter). Plus, we still don't have internet at our new apartment, which is rather unfortunate...
Anyways, I just wanted to tell you guys about a brand new group that I created on Facebook for all of you Facebook users. It's a group for Sierra Planet/other people who post on the Sierra boards to meet and greet new people. I thought it might be cool to see who all's on Facebook in this community.
Anyways, if you have a Facebook account, search for Sierra Planet, and the link should come up. I'm not sure how to post an exact link to the group, since Facebook generally splits up the groups by school/region, but if you go to http://www.facebook.com, you can search once you register/log-in.
Talk to you later!

Have to say I agree with that article. I dislike social networking sites; blogs are okay, but all the Myspace and Facebook stuff seems a bit much. Some friends talked me into getting a Facebook account, and it was fun at first, but it was all a big waste of time (surprise, surprise). Trouble was, even after deleting all my personal information, my name was still there, as there's no way to actually delete your account (just make it "dormant"). I ended up e-mailing Facebook's tech support to delete my account. Oh, and I also dislike the fact that someone used my e-mail to sign up for a Myspace account, and then never bothered to use it.

It is a waste of time, and don't get me started on MySpace. I have a very good friend who has one, and I don't like to insult her, but her page design looks atrocious.
My neighbor's kid, who's 15, is constantly telling me I need to get a MySpace. No, I have my own 3 websites with my own domain names, my own designs, and any features (blogs, boards, etc) I want to put on them; I don't need a MySpace. Besides which, I belong to several sites, like Digg, that have social networking features, and I don't even use those.

I have MySpace and Facebook. Of the two, Facebook is waaaaay better. MySpace is just a huge buggy mess.
And, yeah, so many MySpace users are just really really stupid when it comes to page design. Yeesh!
I use Facebook mostly for the little fun stuff anyway. I already have four websites, three of which are on my own domain names and hosting accounts.

As far as 'networking' stuff goes, I have a LiveJournal. That's it. Not counting various boards and such, of course.

If you didn't have a reason to dislike Facebook before, take a look at this:
Facebook Ads makes a flashy debut in New York
Quote: Additionally, Facebook has unveiled targeted advertisements that will allow marketers to target by any information inside Facebook profiles, from relationship status to favorite television shows. Zuckerberg demonstrated the interface by targeting a hypothetical running shoe ad toward women aged 18 to 30 in New York who have listed "running" among their interests.
"With this interface, you'll be able to target exactly the people that you want," Zuckerberg said. "This is some really powerful stuff, and nothing like this has ever been seen before."
Finally, Zuckerberg showed how Facebook Ads will also give advertisers access to tracking and analytics information about exactly who they're reaching and what kind of trends are appearing all over the site. "As you run ads on Facebook, you'll be able to see the exact mindshare that your brand is getting."
