King's Quest 6: To Heir is Human is the sixth edition to the series. The graphics are stunning in the opening sequence. It was incredibly detailed for the games in 1992. The opening sequence immediately thrusts the gamer into the world of Daventry. The player realizes very quickly that addiction is inevitable. The graphics of the rest of the game were very much like that of its King's Quest 6 predecessor. This lets the person know right away that he/she can expect a high quality game. The thing that is most impressive about the opening sequence is the "floating camera sequence," in which the camera acts more like a film camera than in previous games. The scenes are not just merely snapshots because they actually follow the character around. From the opening scene, the game player could tell that this game would reach, if not exceed, the expectations of a King's Quest game. The player soon finds that he is completely engulfed in the story.
The point-and-click interface may make it a bit easier for the player to figure out certain things. The days of typing in this game series are long gone; so if you liked the challenge of typing, then this is probably the only drawback. The music is really uplifting, and most people will enjoy it. This was the second story in the series that is pertained to love. King Graham's son Prince Alexander ventures out into the open waters in search of Cassima. Some months earlier, King Graham had liberated Cassima while on a mission to save his own family (King's Quest 5). When Prince Alexander and Princess Cassima met, it was instant sparks.
In the beginning, we see that Prince Alexander is heart broken because the Land of the Green Isles is not really just a small journey. It is actually really far away. Well, one day Alexander was sitting by the magic mirror trying to figure out how to get over Cassima. When suddenly the surface of the mirror swirled into a vision of his true love. It was Cassima calling out to him. Before the mirror returned to normal, it showed the stars outside her window. Alexander, being an intelligent young chap and taking astronomy in school, recognized these stars and set off with his crew to find her. He sailed for months. Finally, land was spotted.
His happiness was somewhat short-lived as clouds seemed to circle the boat and quickly turned into a violent thunderstorm. Alexander’s boat was completely wrecked. His loyal crew was nowhere to be found. Now Alexander, with almost nothing but the shirt on his back, has to figure out as much as he can about the Land of the Green Isles. Only by uncovering the many mysteries of the Green Isles can Alexander reach the one he loves. Alexander feels very unwelcome in this land. If one reads The Guide Book to the Land of the Green Isles, one will learn that the kingdom was not always this way. Something has happened to this beautiful paradise. One may actually finish the game without ever figuring out the mysteries shrouded in the mists. If you finish this game you may think to yourself, I wish I could have done more. You are probably right! This game has multiple endings, and it will take all your skill in order to get the best ending. The easiest solution may not always lead to the best outcome ... 6 out of 6 stars. -- Steve
